what is psychedelic integration

What psychedelic integration is

Psychedelic experiences can surface more in a few hours than years of talking manage to reach: grief, memory, connection, material that doesn't fit neatly into the life waiting afterward. Integration is the clinical work of metabolizing that material, whether the experience came from a ketamine series, a clinical trial, a retreat, a ceremony, or personal use you've told no one about.

Without integration, even profound experiences tend to fade into a story you tell. With it, they can become durable change in how you relate to yourself, your history, and the people around you. The work draws on Internal Family Systems, psychodynamic therapy, and Somatic Experiencing, because psychedelic material is rarely only cognitive. It lives in the body, and in parts of you that surfaced when the defenses stood down.

The experience may have taken hours. What it asks of you can take much longer. That part is the work.

why i do this work

I've been on both sides of this.

My own recovery began in abstinence-based settings. That foundation was real, and I don't disown it. Years later, psychedelic experiences became a significant part of my path: not a rejection of recovery, but part of how I came to understand what mine was for. They are part of why I became the clinician I am.

I say this because integration asks you to bring experiences most therapists never invite into the room. You deserve to know that the person across from you isn't evaluating your choices from a distance. I bring formal training (MAPS-trained in MDMA-assisted therapy, experience as a ketamine integrationist, an LCADC credential in substance use treatment) and a lived understanding of why these experiences can matter.

You won't have to explain why it mattered. You'll get to work on what it asked of you.

clinical and legal clarity

What this work is not

I do not provide, administer, source, or supply psychedelics or any other substance, in any setting, under any arrangement. I do not refer clients to underground practitioners. No session takes place while you are under the influence.

What happens here is psychotherapy: legal, confidential, clinical work before or after experiences you pursue independently or in legal contexts such as ketamine treatment or clinical trials. Harm reduction means you get honest information and real clinical care wherever you stand. It is not encouragement, and it is not judgment.

Talking about your experiences is legal. Judging you for them was never clinical.

how the work is done

How integration works

The work begins with a biopsychosocial assessment covering your history, your experiences with psychedelics or your intentions around them, the trauma and mental health context they sit inside, and what you're hoping the work produces. From there, sessions take one of two shapes. Preparation supports adults approaching a legal experience: clarifying intentions, building the somatic and psychological capacity to meet difficult material, and planning for what comes after. Integration works with what an experience already surfaced, at whatever distance: last week's ketamine session or something from twenty years ago that never settled.

Sessions are conducted via secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth. The pace is set by your nervous system, not a protocol. Some experiences integrate in a handful of sessions; some open into longer depth work, because what surfaced was never really about the substance.

Integration begins with what actually happened to you, not with what was supposed to happen.

who this is for

Who this is for

Adults processing a ketamine series who received the medicine but not the therapy. Adults back from a retreat or ceremony, holding something enormous with nowhere to put it. Adults who had a difficult or destabilizing experience and want a clinician who won't flinch or moralize. Adults whose experience from years ago has started asking questions again. Adults considering a psychedelic path who want preparation that is honest about both the promise and the risks.

Many of my clients are professionals who keep this part of their lives private: clinicians, executives, parents. Discretion isn't an accommodation here; it's the baseline. And for adults whose relationship with substances is itself part of the picture, I hold the substance use and the meaning-making in the same clinical frame, without pretending one cancels the other.

This work is for the person who came back changed, and wants the change to hold.

questions

Psychedelic integration, answered

What is psychedelic integration therapy?

Psychedelic integration therapy is licensed talk therapy focused on making meaning of psychedelic experiences and translating them into lasting change. That can mean processing a recent ketamine series or retreat, working through a difficult or destabilizing experience, or returning to material from years ago. No substances are involved in the work itself.

Do you provide, administer, or recommend psychedelics?

No. I do not provide, administer, source, or supply any substance, and I do not refer clients to anyone operating outside the law. Integration and preparation are legal, confidential psychotherapy. Nothing about this work requires or encourages psychedelic use.

Is it safe to talk about my psychedelic use in therapy?

Yes. Talking about your own substance use in therapy is legal, and it is protected by the same confidentiality that covers everything else you share, within the standard limits every licensed therapist follows. You will not be judged, and you will not be pushed toward any particular choice.

I had a difficult or frightening experience. Can integration therapy help?

Yes. Difficult experiences are often the ones that most need integration. Overwhelming material, derealization, resurfaced trauma, or an experience that left you feeling unmoored can be worked with clinically: slowly, somatically, and at a pace your nervous system can tolerate.

Do I need to have already taken psychedelics to start?

No. Some clients come for preparation before a legal experience such as ketamine treatment or a clinical trial, and some come to think through whether this path is right for them at all. Honest, clinically grounded preparation is part of harm reduction.

What training do you have in psychedelic work?

I completed MAPS training in MDMA-assisted therapy and have worked as a ketamine integrationist alongside prescribing clinicians. I also hold an LCADC credential (Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor), with formal training in substance use assessment and harm reduction.

Do you offer psychedelic integration online?

Yes. Sessions are conducted via secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth for adults in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Florida, Texas, and Maine, with in-person sessions in Austin, Texas by request.
